Stories from the Heart

Real moments. Lasting impact.

A Light in the Dark: Shlomi’s Story

"When I first arrived in Canada with my wife and two daughters 18 years ago, I didn’t expect to find family right away, but that’s exactly what happened when I met Barak and Reut. From the very beginning, they welcomed us with open arms, and we’ve been connected ever since. Barak and Reut are kind and selfless people, always thinking of how they can help others, whether by opening their home to the community for holidays or offering support to those in need.

Five years ago, my wife passed away after a battle with illness, leaving me with five children. It was the hardest time of my life, but Barak and Reut never left my side. They helped me through every step of the process, from the burial to the mourning, and even offered guidance on how to talk to my kids. Barak cried with me, and Reut was there for my children, offering comfort and hope when we needed it most.

They are the kind of people who lift others, even while facing their own challenges. Their support gave me strength during the darkest time of my life, and through them, I’ve come to understand that even in moments of great loss, there is meaning and purpose.

I share this story not just to highlight the incredible impact Barak and Reut have had on my life, but to offer hope to others who may be facing similar situations. There are people like Barak and Reut who will stand by your side, offering a light at the end of the tunnel when you need it most."

A Beacon of Compassion in Times of Need

A heartfelt request for support came in for a man who was enduring a particularly challenging time. Recently, he had a fall that resulted in four broken ribs, adding to his already serious health issues. This elderly widower, with no children, had been languishing in the Emergency Room for several days due to a lack of available beds in the wards. With his family overseas and few visitors, he was feeling the deep weight of isolation and distress.

Understanding his plight, his nephew reached out to Rabbi Barak from Chabad Heart, seeking comfort and companionship for his struggling relative. Chabad Heart stepped in to provide the warmth and reassurance he needed, embodying the true essence of community support.

In times of hardship, knowing that someone cares and is there for you can make all the difference. Through their compassionate support, Chabad Heart was able to offer a sense of belonging and hope during a difficult period.
